Jason Zadrozny fights Tory Cuts for Elderly

8.54.00pm GMT Sat 21st Nov 2009

Jason Zadrozny will again appear on BBC 1's Politics Show, this Sunday, 22nd November. This time he is discussing the massive impact the cuts from Tory run Nottinghamshire County Council will have on elderly and vulnerable local residents.

Nottinghamshire County Council have revealed their plans for £31 million cuts to their budget next year - with many of Eastwood and Ashfield's vital services bearing the brunt.

Major cuts are planned in services for local elderly people, such as selling off all their care homes, closing some day centres and axing 475 jobs. The dial-a-ride service also faces closure.

People using services, such as transport, meals on wheels and home care will see increased charges.

Home care charges could rise from £8.80 to a staggering £12 per hour if the proposals are agreed. Transport services could rise from £2.15 to £4. Meals on Wheels could jump from £2.35 to £3.95.

Lib Dem Cllr Jason Zadrozny is appalled by these proposals. Jason says, "Under both Labour and the Conservatives people in Nottinghamshire pay the largest Council Tax bills of any Shire County in the UK. Now County Hall bosses want to cut back on vital services. I haven't noticed a cut in Council Tax bills!"

"What is particularly distressing is that they want to hit hardest many of our most vulnerable people such as the elderly."

Jason will appear with 90 year old Huthwaite resident, Irene D'Arcy, who is one local resident hit by the callous Tory cuts.
