Lib Dems not for sale

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has sent a clear message to the Labour and Conservative parties that the Liberal Democrats are "not for sale" and will not be easily wooed into a coalition.

In a Times article today, Nick said that "the Liberal Democrats are up for real change. We are not up for sale and there have been no backroom deals.

"It's the people who are in charge. They give instructions to politicians, not the other way round."

In recent days, both prime minister Gordon Brown and Conservative leader David Cameron have highlighted areas of agreement between their parties and the Lib Dems, on issues ranging from constitutional reform to civil liberties. Mr Clegg said the differences were "more striking than any synthetic similarities".

Jason Zadrozny, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Ashfield and Eastwood said;

"It is clear that both Labour and Conservative leaders are trying hard to show how like the Liberal Democrats they are. They clearly have no strong ideas of their own. It seems clear to me that rather than voting for fake change with the Conservatives or being let down again by Labour, residents should vote Liberal Democrat and vote for real change. We would bring a strong leadership team that includes Vince Cable as Chancellor and the change that our country really needs. This change would include policies like:

  • making the first £10,000 of earnings tax free

  • giving a fair start for all children by making class sizes smaller

  • a "clean" political system which would allow constituents to sack their MP if they broke the rules."
